I can not recomend this Android phone enough.
To be honest I wanted an iPhone but this was cheaper in the short and long run so I thought I'd give it a try.
To begin with I hated it! It wasn't intuitive like an iPhone, it seemed complex and I thought I couldnt load my iTunes onto it. I had a week to return it, which I planed to do and upgrade to the iPhone, but after a week of fiddling around and playing with it (which you won't be able to stop doing) I started to see it's potential.
I have had it a month now and it still amazes me every day!
Now I'll save you alot of time and bother by recomending some apps. If you want to Sync your iTunes onto it you have a few choices, doubleTwist (desktop and phone app)which is free (but personally I found it very faulty), or some paid apps all around a couple of quid (but worth it!), after trying a couple (you can uninstall paid apps VIA ANDROID MARKET/downloads on your phone within 24 hours if you dont like them and you won't get charged)I found iSyncr by far the best, its under £2 and you don't have to download anything onto your PC/MAC it even has a step by step set up guide.
Please note, some iTunes music is ''protected'' and won't sync to anything non Apple, this is Apple's fault, no-one elses! But to be fair not many are proteced. (If you want to check your albums, in your iTunes library right click on the album and left click on get info. If it sais Purchased AAC file it will sync to an Android, if it sais Protected AAC file it won't.)
The music player on the phone is OK but leaves alot to be desired, again I tried a good few but found 'Music PlayerPro' (also under £2) to be by far the best! Even better than an iPod. Or if your a cheapskate the best free one in my opinion was '3' cubed player.
Amazon MP3 app will allow you to download songs and albums directly to your phone just like an iPhone with iTunes store. (But you must enable '1-click' on your Amazon account online first)
There are hundreds of fantastic APPs on the Android Market and about half are free! You can even get antivirus free.
But what really sets this phone apart from the iPhone is the abbility to customize it. You have 5 home screens (one in the middle and two each side you can slide too and you can add/remove and move around any shortcuts you want!
Put the buttons where they suit you, you can also have widgets (the clock/weather in the picture is a widget) E.G. you can have a list of web page bookmars on one, a giant analog clock on another, a whole month calander on another, or just fill a page with app buttons or combine buttons an widgets, it's entirely up to you!

Right.. before all, I have to say that if you even thinking about going for HTC Hero, you shouldn't read this post... Even though Hero is good, but it is OLD and very OVERPRICED!
Here:
I've had used Legend for about 3 weeks. As a matter of fact, it is in my other room (waiting to be returned and refunded). I am now using the HTC Desire and am planning to keep it for the next year or so.
The price difference between a Desire and a Legend about 20-30 quid... but this is what you'll get:
HTC Legend has these:
* 3.2" Screen - not properly calibrated and QWERTY keyboard does not work properly because of that...or maybe I have fat fingers :S
* 320 X 480 HVGA Resolution
* 2GB SD card
* 600MHz CPU
* 384Mb RAM
* GSM and WiFi antenna is placed on the little black plastic on the bottom of the phone
* Camera is proper proper smooth, and when there is enough light, there is almost no lag between the real image, and the image displayed on the screen - Oh, its 5M pixel
* Optical Ball is not so accurate (this one... I can't have too fat a finger!)
HTC Desire features:
* 3.7" Screen - Screen is properly configured and calibrated. Screen is slightly more brighter in comparison to Legend. QWERTY is properly configured and is very reliable
* 480 X 800 WVGA - Screen is wider, and a higher resolution. Photos added to the widget (like the people's widget) display a much sharper image. Web-browsing is much much better.
* 4GB SD card (already inserted into the phone)
* 1GHz CPU - For those who say it doesn't make a difference, it actually does. HTC Legend is often laggy when you switch programs, or just simply switch from one homepage to another one or use one of the HTC widgets. HTC Desire is PROPER smooth, unless you use one of the animated backgrounds
* 576Mb RAM - Almost twice the RAM that you get with Legend. Legend lacks a LOT when a few programs run at the background. Desire is smooth. I have tried to run up to 21 background application, and there was just a 'tiny' bit lag when I tried to move around (21 applications!)
* GSM and WiFi antenna positions are unknown. But I definitely got better GSM connections, and my WiFi connection NEVER broke!
* Camera is a tad-bit laggy in comparison to Legend, but nothing that you should be worried about. This most probably is due to displaying the image on a bigger image.
* Optical ball is proper sensitive, and is very reliable.
* Speaker is a bit less louder than HTC Legend.
Up to now, I have had no problems with the phone at all. Internet browsing is much better than HTC Legend, and iPhone/iPod. Flash player is fine.
So I leave the ultimate comparison to you...
20quid more, and you get all that...worth it?

The first thing anyone notices about the Galaxy S is the screen. There are other smartphones out with the same size of screen (the HTC HD2, I believe) but the "super AMOLED" display really pops with brightness and colour. Normally I dismiss claims of "20% extra brightness, 80% sunlight reduction, 20% extra battery" as marketing guff, however, in the case of this technology, it appears to be at least somewhat true. The screen makes even mundane usage of the device something of a joy.
The phone is sold with Samsung's own interface on top, and in many ways it reminds me of the Sense UI on the HTC devices, though it does lack some of the widgets that came with my wife's HTC Hero, such as as the homescreen weather/time widget and the email widget. Similar applications were easily found on the Android Market. The touch whiz interface is clearly somewhat less polished and pretty than Sense, but it essentially does the same things.
And this phone is fast. The capacitive screen requires the lightest of touches to set the processor in motion and switching between apps, screens, pictures, albums is almost instantaneous. The machine is built on a 1ghz processor like the Nexus 1 and Desire, but it beats both in benchmarks and includes a dedicated graphics engine. I haven't had much opportunity to try many games, though the few I've tried (including Asphalt, a 3d heavy game) have run extremely well. It's just a shame that there aren't more big developers working in the Android Market at the moment.
Swype is a brilliant addition to text input on the device. You may have heard of it, or something similar - it allows you to trace a "path" including the letters you want in a word, rather than pecking them out individually. This sounds somewhat silly until you try it. The software has an uncanny knack of choosing the correct word out of the letters you trace and it makes typing out long words fast and easy. It isn't so good for the fiddly bits of messaging - punctuation, capitalisation - but you can combine it with hunt and peck for finer editing.
Now the bad.
The design of the phone is inoffensive, yes, and also generic. It's what you'd draw if you wanted to represent a distillation of 2010 smartphones. It's basically an oblong screen with filleted edges. It has one clicky physical home button flanked by capacitive menu and back buttons. I found that I missed the physical trackball of the Hero, if only to flip between screens or fidget with. The case is a shiny, slippery plastic, and the back is composed of tiny, faintly iridescent polkadots. Not very nice to look at or hold, especially since this is a large, thin slab. Don't ever rest it on your knees, it'll just slide off. I expect that I'll get a case with a bit more grip for it when a wider selection becomes available.
The battery life isn't great either, though I am able to get at least a regular day of use out of it. It has never given up on me when I've needed it, but it does get worrying low late in the day. Bear in mind that it's my new toy and, as with any new gadget, I play with it all the time: installing new apps, changing backgrounds, taking pictures, messing with the GPS, etc. So when I calm down a bit I expect the battery will go proportionally further.
Overall, this is a very polished device. It's packed with cutting edge hardware that works in efficient tandem with a quickly maturing Android. I dislike its physical design and it's a shame that Samsung didn't plump for higher quality materials and a more daring style to match the hardware. However, we don't (at least, I don't) buy phones for what they look like when they're switched off, lying on a table. No, we spend most of the time looking at the screen, and the Galaxy's display more than makes up for its ugly chassis.

For a good while now the iPhone has been (in many peoples eyes) the smart-phone to have, for its simplicity, speed, huge range of apps and solid design people have been splashing out ridiculous money to own an iPhone (myself included). After a while we learned that it is pretty restricted and that jail breaking is frowned upon (rather than encouraged like palms Dev mode and androids 3rd party apps) and the whole product is stupidly over priced for what you get.
This is where Samsung have seen a whole in the market and created a magnificent smart-phone, the Samsung Galaxy S i9000.
OK, it isn't 'cheap' by any means, and it isn't quite as well built as some may have hoped but it is far cheaper than the iPhone 4 and it has many features that are far more impressive. You can pick one up for around £300 in excellent condition and for what you get it isn't really that over priced.
The first thing you notice is the super AMOLED screen, I can't express just how bright and crisp it actually is. I read many reviews before buying my i9000 and they all boasted on how amazing the screen is, I was skeptical I must admit. Then i turned it on and I was blown away. The colours are so beautifully vibrant, everything is crystal clear, and the wallpapers that come with the phone look absolutely stunning. Even with the Brightness turned right down it is still super bright and is even very visible in bright sun lit areas. It is also very scratch resistant and seems to stay pretty clean without having to wipe it all day, possibly an oleophobic coating of some sort.
The HD camera takes a lovely photo and the 720p video recording is much much better than I anticipated, however the lack of flash is well... how can I say it... Stupid! I am utterly confused as to why Samsung have left this feature out, It would be near a perfect phone if they had just added a flash but for some bizarre reason they decided to leave it out. OK digital cameras are pretty cheap for a half decent one and the camera is just an extra feature to the phone but it would have still been the icing on the cake if they had put on the flash.
The phone in general looks very nice too, it is clearly influenced in design by the iPhone but in my opinion it looks even nicer and feels much comfier in my hand.
It has plenty of memory, 8GB or 16GB with an expandable slot inside the phone which will take up to an extra 32GB of memory which should be enough for anybody.
The phone is nicely customizable as are most phones. You can easily change the wallpaper, which spreads out over 7 homepages that can be filled with widgets of your choice and shortcuts to your applications, but be warned if you have plenty of widgets they may slow things down a tad and really drain your battery because they keep refreshing. There is a way past this however, simply change the settings for each widget so they refresh manually/never. This will save hours of battery life. Many people are complaining that the battery life is poor however I disagree. I just simply turned the screen brightness to half and turned off background data and auto-sync and it has gone from lasting one day of good usage to 3 days before it needs a full charge. Also download a free task killer from the android market and this will close all applications that have been left open which will also save plenty of battery life and keep your phone running at maximum speed.
The phone overall is an excellent smart-phone. I was stuck between the Galaxy S and the HTC desire (2 very similar top of the range phones with very minor differences) and after testing the 2 phones the 4inch HD super AMOLED screen, the HD camera and the appearance of the phone itself won me over, and I am very happy with my decision. I'm giving the phone 5 out of 5 because i think it truly deserves it. The lack of flash is still crazy and it should have been added but I can't deduct a star just for that one reason. The android store is still a little limited (70,000+ apps is still plenty to choose from, but the selection isn't as impressive as apples) but that is something that will grow over time.

When Apple launched the iPad, I purchased one immediately. I remember being delighted by the large screen, and the effortless web surfing experience. After owning the iPad for a little over a week, however, I then wondered what exactly I was going to use it for - I had a Macbook Pro, and a smartphone - and the iPad failed to complete many tasks I wanted it to, and certainly failed to bring anything new in terms of functionality. Needless to say, it was sold on eBay shortly afterwards.
Since then, I have been waiting for a tablet device to come to market that offered a little bit more than just a large touchscreen. My wait is now over.
My Samsung Galaxy Tab arrived on November 1st, so I have been using it every day for just over a week. What a fabulous device! I have read various tech journals saying the iPad is better, and to those who just want a couch-surfer, maybe so. I guess the web experience on the iPad is a little more polished. But any criticism of the Tab ends there. After a week, I am used to the touch screen interface and the way it reacts to my inputs, I am happy with the smoothness of the scrolling when viewing websites, and I'm ok with the reported lack of apps available on Android market (by comparison with the app store). I followed the tip on sizing apps to fill the screen, and that works just great.
I use the device as a secondary phone, for personal calls, via a bluetooth headset. Call quality is excellent, and I haven't had a dropped call yet - can't say the same with my 3gs! The email client is fantastic, pushes my POP account and gmail over, and collects them all in a unified inbox. Keyboard is so easy for thumbing in portrait - I find it really fast and easy, but I'm no touch typist. Contacts and calendar synced up with google, great use of the extra screen size over a smartphone. I use google docs and thinkfree office for work stuff, mostly spreadsheet stuff, and it works well, and web browsing is just fine with full flash onboard. iPlayer looks a treat.
Many have wondered whether a 7" screen is large enough to be better than a smartphone - yes it is - way better. Screen size between 3.5" phone and 7" Tab may not sound much, but it seems about three times the size of my HTC Desire. Makes all the difference in the world - no more squinting! Camera works well, not fantastic by any means, but I've taken some reasonable snaps, and that's good enough for me. I generally take the pictures on my HTC Desire, and bluetooth 'em over to the Tab, then use the Tab to view the gallery - a nice visual experience, and great to pass around amongst friends and family.
Widgets, shortcuts, feeds and live wallpaper all help to make the Tab feel personal - I've got all nine screens pretty rammed. I have a 32Gb micro SD card in the slot, so bags of space - keep all the media on the card, works great - and you have the option of storing loads of media on lots of different cards - never run out of storage space.
I have used the device twice as a navigation tool - it has now replaced my TomTom. Enough said.
The Tab feels like a quality piece of kit - doesn't crease or flex, no creaking, screen seems tough, and plastics feel good quality - no scratches yet. Speakers are loud, and sound quality not bad at all. Battery life - 13 hours use including constant WiFi, bluetooth, regular surfing, email on push, calls, navigation, and angry birds, of course!
As an ebook reader, I am quite impressed - I loaded a couple of books up, and it seems great - nice, clear text, I can look up long words to increase my loquaciousness, and the device feels light and is easy to grip - even lying in bed. It is fab as a video player - seamless, good screen size, plays every format I've thrown at it.
I've downloaded PowerAmp from the Android market as a music player - works well - Angry Birds is cool on the bigger screen, FB works fine, what else do you want??? Notifications bar is useful, bluetooth is fast, multitasking is awesome, file manager helpful, and I've saved the best bit 'till last...
It fits in my jeans pocket!
I have never written a review before (as you may be able to detect), but the Samsung Galaxy Tab made me put my initial thoughts in writing - it really is that good. I doubt you could be disappointed, and if you are, an update to Gingerbread will probably sort you out!
